During the Health Care Mission 2023 of the MJB Cares Foundation in partnership with Mabuhay Deseret and Budjong Integrated Humanitarian Missions, 39 individuals successfully undergone free cataract surgery. As such, a post operation check up is vital to ensure that the amelioration of their vision is on set.
Last March 27, 2023, 20 patients were brought from Sta Cruz Zambales to De Venecia Clinic in San Fabian, Pangasinan where Dr. Jan Edward Sayco, MD and his medical team thoroughly examined the patients. He had significant finding – that most of the patients were at exceptional health and had taken the previously conducted surgery surprisingly well. While others have been subjected to well-tailored management treatment to further hasten their recovery, some where totally healed and have zero cataract in their midst.
“Okay na ang vision ko! Dati, wala talaga akong nakikita. Di ako lumalabas ng bahay. Kahit pumunta sa tindahan, tinatamad na ako kase wala naman akong nakikita. Ngayon, nakakalabas na ako. Kahit pumunta pa sa bayan. Ang mga tao, nakikilala ko na. Confident na akong gumawa ng gawaing bahay na matagal ko nang di nagagawa. Salamat MJB Cares Foundation, graduate na ako sa Cataract! “

It’s a universal truth that our vision will inevitably diminish and slowly be challenged over time. Fortunately, the dedicated doctors revolutionized the field of medicine and changed the game. They gave us another shot of enjoying the gift of vision – to see social realities, what the world really is and the beauty it entails.
We eternally grateful to all the doctors, volunteers and the partner organizations who put this advocacy on its wheels. It is through your relentless devotion to the cause that alleviated the quality of life of these people, once again. The foundation will continue to ferment compassion for the elderly and communities.
