The sky gets clearer and clearer by the second as the MJB Cares Foundation in partnership with Integrated Philippine Association of Optometrist – Zambales represented by Dra. Genalyn Evasco-Casticon, handed out free prescription glasses at Santa Cruz Academy last March 26, 2023.
213 prescription glasses were handed out for the residents of the following barangays of Zambales: Bayto, Lucapon, Gamma, Lipay, San Fernando, Tubotubo, Guiguis, Polacion North, Poblacion South, Sabang, Bolitoc, Naulo, Lomboy, and Malabago.
Leo Cubillian, an ophthalmologist and director of the UP Manila National Institutes of Health’s Philippine Eye Research Institute, said that around two million Filipinos are visually impaired. This is quite unfortunate especially to those children who are yet to learn. Imagine going through primary school and you can’t learn properly because you can’t see what is taught by your teacher. One prime example is Jovhel Bradley Mendoza, 8 year old, who was diagnosed with astigmatism. It has been a hindrance for him to learn even the basic alphabet due to the nature of his visual impairment. But fortunately, through MJB Cares Foundation, he was given a high index lens eyeglass to aid his vision.

In today’s world, where access to healthcare and necessities is limited for many individuals, the gift of clear vision can make a significant difference. Prescription glasses are essential for those who suffer from visual impairments and cannot afford to purchase them on their own.
Clear vision goes beyond having a good eyesight. The foundation sets its eyes in generating a platform entirely intended to overcome adversities and unclarities of communities. It is through cooperation, innovation, and compassion that we come into terms with these things.
