“The beacon of hope”
Our team may have only witnessed a glimpse of the struggles of Likud Pata residents; unfortunately, living in the life of the residents for only a few days does not come close to capturing the true scarcity of basic needs in this area. Right after the DDCPH Corp. and MJB Cares team returned from the turnover of the Water System Project at Brgy Karundong Kalingalan Caluag, Sulu; Our CEO, Mary Joy Bustamante, noticed how dark the area was. On March 29, 2022, our team initiated a donation drive in which each member could donate solar lights; no one anticipated the overwhelming response; by the 14th of April, we had accumulated 100 solar lights ready for shipment to the area.
On May 14, 2022, with the help of The Marine Battalion Landing Team-8 (MBLT8), led by LTCOL ABDULMOEL A ALAMIA PN(M), Commanding Officer– One hundred (100) Solar Lights were successfully distributed to the community of Likud, Pata, Sulu on May 14, 2022.
According to The Marine Otso Press Release “Initially, they intended to install a water system, but Barangay Chairman Jailan Pangilan, on behalf of the residents, requested solar lights instead. The local populace instead expressed their preference for having their homes lit at night. This would also give them peace of mind as it would deter intruders.”
The MJB Cares Foundation aims to be the BEACON OF LIGHT in times of darkness.
