Water System at Kalingalan Caluang, Sulu

“We are leaving a legacy but more than that, we are touching lives of the many!” – MJB

The Mindanao Humanitarian Volunteers for Peace, Inc. (MHVP) cleared the path for us to find the lack of safe water in most parts of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. MJB, the CEO of DDCPH Corp and the founder of MJB Cares Foundation, has visited the area multiple times with her husband LJB for medical missions and community engagements– but one problem remained the same.

During their stay, one of the community’s issues was eliminated: a lack of clean and safe drinking water. Residents are frequently burdened with the task of finding clean water that is contaminated with disease, causing them and their family to become ill.

The Water System Project began in the first week of February 2022, with the support of donors and headed by  Lt. Col. Alamia of Marine Battalion Landing Team 8.

On the 25th day of March 2022, together with the MBLT8, DDCPH Corp., and MHVP, the inauguration of the Water System on Brgy. Karundong, Kalingalan Caluang, Sulu took place. This Water System now serves more than 1,000 families. This was a life-changing and eye-opening experience that taught us to be grateful for the fact that we have access to clean drinking water at all times.

“I’m so glad that I’ve joined the trip, met new friends (we are of different religions and cultures but share the same heart), went beyond our fear, and have been able to witness the community first-hand,” Jewel Kamille Macapagal, the Director of Operations for DDCPH Corp., told us about her first experience on our missions. “I realized how fortunate I am when I saw how difficult it is for them to even have clean water to drink.”

The gratitude we received has sincerely moved us, and it has motivated us to work even harder in preparation for future missions that this team will undertake. We’ll work together to ensure that the people of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi have access to clean, safe, and dependable water.
