Feeding program at Lipay National High School

Our daily routines have changed, and sadly, the majority of us have struggled to survive this pandemic. Some Filipino families have struggled to put food on the table despite the pandemic. Along with the dearth of nutrient-rich food for Filipino families, these are just two of the myriad recurring problems in our country.

On October 11, 2022, the MJB Cares Foundation also visited Lipay National High School in Santa Cruz, Zambales for a feeding program for over 100 undernourished students to address this persistent issue in the community.

Better concentration and academic performance are associated with a healthy diet and lifestyle. On an empty stomach, no one can concentrate while studying or attending class. Therefore, more nutritious and healthful meals will result in students performing better in class. In the end, the advantages of feeding programs go beyond giving undernourished students nourishing meals. It also means making a difference in their lives and giving them the tools they need to build better futures.

These initiatives are merely baby steps that are guaranteed to empower these students and give them hope that, despite their present struggles, their future is still in their own hands.

MJB also included motivational statements in her address, saying, “I did not hesitate the first time, Ms. Carmela Ebuenga (TLE Coordinator) approached me to run a feeding program at Lipay National High School as it is very close to my heart—it is my birthplace. I feel compelled to contribute and am honored and fortunate to be able to give back. This place makes me reflect on my past and how I worked hard to be where I am now. Additionally, it serves as a reminder to me to always remember where I came from, and to remain grounded, to share my successes and setbacks while acknowledging them.”
